French Macaroons

So..I've recently been bitten by the macaroon bug...seems that anyone who attempts to make these little guys quickly become obsessed. I am no exception.

My first attempt

I'm actually quite proud of my first batch..although they were way too big to be considered the traditional dainty little treats. Still tasted damn good though...I've since made another batch and plan on making more today...I may need to bring this up to my therapist at our next secession.....

I've gone AWOL

..at least that's what it seems...I've been in a creative slump lately..and work is sucking away what little soul i have left...just read any entries in Diary of a Dikini Serving Wench and you'll get the idea.

Hopefully there will be some shop updates this week...provided I get a day off...those are rare these days.

On a lighter note...I will be attending a roller derby recruitment night on Thursday for our local leagues and I'm hoping I'll be accepted onto one of them. Fingers crossed...I've wanted to do this for years now...ever since I saw the Texas Roller Girls down in Austin.

And our new little kitten Buggar has lightened the sadness around here immensely after Calvin's death. Lynus is so much happier with a playmate.

oh well...once I complete the baby outfit I'm knitting for my best friend, who is due in May, I'll start some new decoupage projects and get them up in Miss Ruby Cube's and there's some vintage sitting here waiting to be posted to AngryButterfly

Under the Weather

Mentally I'm feeling a bit better...physically..well..not so much. That little tickle I had in my throat 2 days ago now feels like I'm breathing in razor blades each time I inhale...Guess after managing to avoid all the illnesses at work such as, the stomach flu, the swine flu, the regular flu, head colds, bronchitis, sinus infections, chest colds, pink eye and ear infections...well..it's probably about time I get sick. I'm going to give one last try and pound back some shots of hooch...that shit will kill anything.

Not a good week

My Calvin passed away at the vet's office in the early hours on Monday morning...his little heart just gave out...I'm so sad that I didn't get to be there with him or say a proper goodbye like I did with Squeaker...but I am glad that it was quick and he wasn't in pain. I had 10 and a half wonderful years with him and I'm heartbroken that I've lost another of my kittie kids.

He's wrapped in his blanket with his favorite toy in his arms and buried next to his brother, Squeaker. I'm sure they're fighting already.

....

so soon after loosing my Squeaker bug I may be loosing Calvin too....it's too soon :(
