Talk Dirty to Me

I happened to come across a little blurb today on soap nuts in a magazine. As I've said before, I'm a little slow on the uptake. For those of you who are still in the dark as I was, soap nuts are dried berries from several trees and shrubs in the genus Sapindus. The berries contain saponins which act as a natural detergent. I'm always looking for greener alternatives to chemically laden products. I've ordered a sample pack here. Once I try them I'll let you all know what I think.

SO...I recently discovered fabric sheets for my inkjet printer. I'm sure they've been around for eons but I'm a little slow on the uptake. I bought a pack of 100% silk habotai sheets to try them out and I'm beyond happy with the results!! So happy I made a couple of pillows for my boring couch.

The imagery is nothing new. I've seen several projects on Etsy depicting them, but I just love them so much I don't care.

*on a side note..I may actually get to derby practice today...holy sweet bejeezus!!!

Bundle of Joy

I've been meaning to post about the newest edition to our little family. Meet...

BACON, THE HEDGEPIG!!!

He's the cutest, grumpiest little guy on the planet!!! A christmas present from Pat. The BEST one so far!

Crossroads

I was recently pondering disassembling this sadly neglected blog and starting anew. I seem to have lost focus in my direction as to where I wanted this thing to go. I'm not sure I ever even knew to begin with. I discovered I was writing and posting what I thought people would want to read, rather than what I truly felt like writing in the first place. Thus, I quickly lost interest and each post became a chore.

I've decided to keep this blog, but truly make it my own. I don't think there will be a said direction. It'll be helter skelter just as I am. I'm going to write what I wish and if some follow my ramblings at least I'll know they're reading what's true to me. Not some farce I've whipped up to please the crowd. If no one reads this..well..that's okay too.

Holy Scrap Yarn Cowl, Batman!

So I feel that I've been neglecting my blog a bit...ok..A LOT. I can't even keep up with 30 days of pictures. Partially my job was to blame. It left me exhausted and irritable most of the time. Now that I'm back in school, and unemployed for the most part, my creative energy is slowly coming back to me. Good thing too, what with the holidays just around the corner.

Recently I've been sitting at my deck glaring at this rather cumbersome basket on top of my yarn/fabric shelf. It's heaping with left over yarn scraps. Various weights, textures, colors just sitting there collecting dust. I finally decided to rummage through it and plucked one ball out and cast on an undetermined number of stitches and just began knitting. I actually had a blast just knitting together mismatched pieces. It was originally going to be a scarf, but once I reached about a third of "scarf" length I decided to try a cowl instead.

This is what I ended up with....

I didn't really get the whole craze of them before..but once I put that snuggly thing on I didn't want to take it off...but it was really hot out..so I did eventually. I've just finished the shell to a little hand bag. It still needs a liner and frills. I've started on another cowl this evening. We'll see how long this obsession lasts until my ADD kicks in and it's on to something else.

CHEERS!
